Sunday Dinner: Individual Tamale Pies

Sunday Dinner: Individual Tamale Pies

Hot damn. It’s been a minute. Christmas is over – and it was another fantastic one for the books.  Now, I’ve purged the house of all the sweets, and I’m ready to get back to clean eating.  We hosted a … Continue reading

Transition

I started a new job about a month ago, which is why 1000 Wonderful Things has been a little quiet.  My schedule changed a lot, which I’m still adjusting to, but also, I’m having a hard time thinking of writing inspiration.  I’ve been cooking quite a bit the last few weeks but not taking photos, I’m still as ever obsessed with shoes, but I haven’t been pinning any of my faves, sometimes, the mind needs to quiet itself to find new creativity.

Pendleton Chair Inspiration

Yesterday my sister-in-law posted this pic on instagram.

My response is pretty clear and warranted.  That chair is amazing.  Further stalking shows that is a fixture at Under the Needle Tattoo in Seattle.  I can’t get it out of my mind!  My love for Pendleton is deep.  A couple weeks ago my friend Lindsey picked up a couple of chairs for me at Goodwill. I need to get them from her soon, and now I’m thinking that this style could be a great way to go on the re-upholstery.

There are lots of Pendleton and Hudson blankets on ebay, but is it terrible to cut one up just to reupholster something?  I’m kicking myself for not buying a patched Hudson last year at a thrift shop in Port Townsend – it was only $25 and it would’ve been perfect for something like this!

What do you guys think? Worth using a blanket for or should I find a similar geometric pattern at the fabric store?

Craigslist Find: Brass/Glass Swivel Coffee Table

Just saw this brass/glass swivel coffee table on Craigslist for $250 after I saw the following images when I was blog perusing last night.

That massive plant is a Fiddle Leaf Fig by the way, which sell for $12 at Fred Meyer or Ikea (in much smaller size of course).  I’ve been thinking about getting one and putting it in a cool basket.

One more inspiration photo with that brass coffee table from Live Creating Yourself.  The one on CL says it is smoked glass but you can get glass table tops at Bed, Bath, & Beyond for $9/each in different sizes if you wanted to get it switched to clear glass.

What do you think? Do you like the glam brass?

Our 3rd Anniversary!

Happy third anniversary to us! I can’t believe it has been 3 yeeeears since our wedding in Park City.

20100925_Hannah-Rory_Ceremony_069

It was the most fun party I’ve ever been to. It was amazing to be surrounded by all of our closest friends and family.  I wish we could do it every year.

Our awesome photographer and friend, Erik Seo, posted a bunch of the photos on his blog recently.

Three years of ups and downs, moves, job changes, change, change, change.  Last year, we had just picked up Judge, we headed to Port Townsend to go camping.  We had so much fun exploring the beaches, shops, and walking around.

Our first anniversary we spent the weekend at Priest Lake celebrating a wedding and had an awesome dinner out.

Tonight we have a mellow date planned.  Drinks and dinner at a new place.

Cheers to 100 more!

Slow Motion Photo Booth

We’ve all seen the photo booth at weddings. Love them. Some of the best photos are taken when people are willing to let a little loose and get candid.  I just saw this video on a friend’s FB page featuring a slow motion photo booth at a wedding they had just gone to.  It’s awesome!

Would you do a slow motion photo booth like this for an event?  I think it looks like a blast!

Watch “Shark Tank” tonight at 9/8c on ABC

I have a soft spot in my heart for local products, and an even softer spot in my heart for local products by people I know. A gal H and I went to high school with has gone from selling a family recipe at local farmers markets to selling to supermarkets across the country. Click here to see Lynnae’s Gourmet Pickles’ official website.

Tonight, the pickles are going up against the sharks on ABC’s “Shark Tank”, a show where people present business concepts and strategies to high profile investors to try and gain financial backing.  See what the sharks have to say about Lynnae’s Gourmet Pickles on tonight’s season premiere episode!  I can’t wait!  Good Luck, Aly!

Tuesday Shoesday: Cheetah Print and Plaid

Ugh, was knocked of my feet with some sort of stomach bug yesterday.  I’m back, feeling better, ready to tackle this fall season.  It feels like the start of a new school year.  I’m feeling motivated, excited, and refreshed.

I pinned this image from Sea of Shoes awhile ago.

When I saw the animal print loafers at Gap, I was knew I would have to recreate the look.  I love Gap jeans in general because they fit higher above the hips preventing the crack show when you bend over.  Plus they just fit right and are usually the perfect length for me which is saying something because I’m 5’5″.

Halfway Homemade Egg Pizza

Some days you just need some pizza, and usually that day is Friday. BAM! Today IS Friday!  YAY pizza!  Okay, this is more like Saturday morning or afternoon pizza, but really, it works for anytime that you want to put an egg on a pizza.  What? You’ve never done that?  It’s time my friend. It is time.

Anyways, in our house there are 5 classifications of pizza: true homemade, quarter homemade, halfway homemade, frozen, and delivery.  I like to put frozen and delivery in one classification but R begs to differ.   True homemade means labor intensive dough, quarter homemade means dough from Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods, halfway homemade means altering a frozen pizza, and of course frozen and delivery are pretty self-explanatory.

A couple weeks ago we hosted a baby shower at our house – it was a last minute venue change and we quickly decided on a pizza party.  Given the circumstances, I picked up a bunch of frozen specialty pizzas – not my usual style, but sometimes you just have to go with the convenience factor.

The next day, S and I were contemplating what to make for brunch and joking about how our latest kitchen habit is cracking an egg on anything we make.  We both looked at each other and Sarah immediately grabbed an artichoke pesto chicken from the freezer.  We topped it with halved cherry tomatoes from my garden and cracked a few eggs on top in the last minutes of baking.

IMG_8193

We pulled the pizza out when the whites had just set and the tomatoes were starting to burst a little.  Let it cool for a minute or so and cut in triangles or squares so each person gets one of the yolks, which should be cooked on the over medium side.  The best part is that when you break the runny yolk, you can use the crust to soak up the gooeyness.

Halfway homemade pizza is awesome because it is fast, easy, and tastes delicious.  Seriously – it could be like one of those cheesy commercials where the lady claims to have made it all from scratch.  Everyone will be all like, “Did you make THIS?” And then you’re like, “Well, SORTA!”

Enjoy!

K&J Tognocchi

Last weekend my best friend from growing up got married!  We met when we were about 6 years old playing t-ball.  The moms shared a moment over their Washington State University Cougar coffee mugs and us girls shared a moment over juice boxes and fruit roll-ups.  Kristen and I were never in the same class together in school until junior high, but our families were good friends and we spent a lot of time together playing fastpitch, camping, boating, and teaching each other about the world.  Kristen introduced me to Tricia Yearwood and Shania Twain, and I remember being really jealous of her cowgirl hat.

WP_20130826_006

Kristen met Justin about 3 and a half years ago in Spokane and was instantly smitten.  I didn’t meet Justin until awhile later and I could tell by the way he looked at Kristen and laughed at her corny jokes that they were two peas in a pod.  Over the past couple of years, I’ve watched their relationship strengthen and grow so much.  They’re the kind of couple that truly makes you believe in fate.

 IMG_8429

Their wedding was the perfect picture of their personalities.  Both the ceremony and reception were in the backyard of Kristen’s parents’ house near Spokane, Washington.  My dad presided over the ceremony, which was just so cute.  There were so many details including cake stands made from logs, burlap table runners, home grown succulents for the bouquets, even signs designating tent camping areas, and where to park.  Best of all – Kristen and her mom completely redid her mom’s dress from the 1970’s to make it Kristen’s.  They changed the neckline to sweetheart, took the sleeves off and totally changed the front of it.  It fit Kristen like a glove and she was seriously glowing with happiness.

I just love that after all these years, Kristen still has the best western accessories (I’m pretty jealous of her boots!)

Cheers to the happy couple!
