Sweet Stacked Wrist Addition

I’ve been thinking a lot about stacked wrist combos, they can be sassy, sweet, or rockstar.  Over the weekend I was in Whistler and one of my friends was wearing this amaze wrap/bead bracelet.  (She promised she would send a pic as soon as she gets her Etsy page off the ground, so we’ll have to hold her to it!)  Last night I was perusing all my fave flash sale sites and then ventured to Nordstrom.com (I’m the poster child for spending less then 1 min per page), and happened onto the Kate Spade Accessories tab.  As soon as I saw the Skinny Mini Bow Bangle, I knew I had to add it to my wishlist.

There are a bunch of different colors, I love the turquoise but also love the plain gold and silvers as well.  This baby is def on the sweet side of stacked wrist.

Easter Cupcakes

Easter is one of my favorite holidays because it has the best candy, signals the beginning of spring, the start of the farmer’s markets for the season, and fresh flowers are a billion times more accessible via my yard.

This year my brother and his fiance hosted a fantastic brunch at their new house in Seattle.  It’s an older home that they have transformed to be the perfect balance of thrifted finds and modern touches.

A couple weeks before Easter I was shopping and happened into the candy aisle (I generally avoid that area at all costs, but R loves those Reeses’ Eggs) and I saw edible grass, the kind you would use to fill Easter baskets.  I figured I could use it somehow.

The stuff was kind of weird and oddly stiff, so I ended up cutting it into small pieces and sticking it into the frosting on mini cupcakes to create tiny little nests.

Slider Cook-Off and Lamb Burger Recipe

Last weekend, we hosted a slider-off at our house.  Four recipes, four completely different sliders.  We had a blast and everyone took it pretty seriously, which meant there was a lot of smack talking. My dad, Sarah, my cousin Chas, and I all cooked.

My dad made smoked pork with tomato/apple aioli.

Sarah made mac & cheese with tomato/bacon jam.

Chas didn’t think the competition was as serious as everyone else did so he brought jalapeno/cheddar beef burgers with bbq sauce.

And I made a take on a gyro with lamb, tzatziki, and tomato.

Lamb sliders:

– 2 lbs ground lamb
– 2 tablespoons minced fresh mint
– 2 tablespoons minced fresh oregano
– 2 tablespoons minced fresh thyme
– 1/4 cup crumbled feta
– 1 egg
– salt and pepper

Mix together and put in the fridge for at least 20 mins so the flavors can meld.  To cook put a splash of oil in a heavy bottom skillet and make 2 ish oz patties. Fry 2-3 minutes each side until cooked to desired doneness.

Serve on a slider bun with tzatziki:

– Grate cucumber and sprinkle with salt (this will bring out moisture)
– 2-3 tablespoons minced fresh dill
– 1/2 cup sour cream
– 3/4 cup plain greek yogurt
– 1 glove minced garlic
– splash of lemon juice

Using a cheese cloth squeeze all the liquid out of the cucumber and mix with the other ingredients until blended.  Keep in fridge and let flavors meld.

Serve the burger on slider bun with a dallop of tzatziki and slice of tomato.

Friday Pinspiration: Herringbone Tile

I’m dreaming of updating our kitchen with new floors, painting the cabinets, getting a fridge that actually fits in the fridge space and converting to a gas range.  We’re still probably over a year out on a kitchen renovation, but it’s always good to keep some inspiration for saving those pennies.

I’m loving this herringbone subway tile backsplash, grey marble counter top, and blue cabinets.  It is so bright and the light reflects nicely.

Happy Friday!

Set a positive intention for today and have a wonderful Easter weekend!

Kate Spade Keds and Saturday Sneaks

Be still my heart.  Keds shoes bring back glorious memories of elementary school and I’ve been considering a new pair over the past year or so, but this partnership with Kate Spade seals the deal.

Sizes are selling out quickly, but hopefully they’ll release more.  Find them here.

It’s all in the details, complete with the wording ‘kick up your heels” along the ankle edge. $75.

Park City Picks

R and I lived in Park City for 2 years, but worked there for a total of 5.  I often get asked for my recommendations for the area, so I thought I would share my favorite picks for food, drinks, and otherwise.

22631_563482010809_2849079_n

There are 3 places to ski in Park City during the winter, Park City Mountain Resort (PCMR as the locals call it), Deer Valley and Canyons Resort (my former stomping grounds).  Each is unique in their own way, and I like them all for different reasons.  My absolute favorite is Canyons – it’s varied in terrain, easy to get away from the crowds and there literally is never a lift line once you get to the outer skirts of the area.  The resort is a lot different from when I worked there due to major expansion, re-branding, and re-structuring of the base area.  The ski terrain remains the same though, and you truly can’t beat it if you’re looking to get some steeps in the morning and shred groomies in the afternoon.  Plus fancy apres at The Farm (where R used to work) is amaze-balls.

My second favorite to ski is Deer Valley.  When we lived in PC, my friend Emily was (still is) the DV PR chick.  We would have the BEST days skiing together, and she was always showing me new terrain.  Plus, I saw a marriage proposal getting off one of the lifts (the girl said yes), which is certainly memorable.  I can NEVER resist a DV cookie, especially when they come straight out of the oven, chocolate chips still gooey.  Pffff, my mouth is watering.

PCMR is probs my least fave to ski, but my most fave to apres.  The base is home to the Pig Pen Saloon, one of my besties, Kim’s family owns the place, and I waitressed there for a couple of years.  Also, where I worked during my quarter life crisis post quitting my job at Canyons.  The Pig Pen is home to the famous Pig Burger, which is totes shareable and drinks are reasonably priced.

A trip to PC is not complete without an evening on Main Street.  There are unlimited options to eat and during our time in town, R and I made our way through most of them.

Top high end (super high end, like really high end): Talisker on Main, no it is not closed to the public, yes you can eat here.  You will not regret this choice. It’s good, like really good.  Innovative in flavors, you will be blown away.  Buuuuut – as if I haven’t made it clear enough, expect to spend top dolla’.

Mid-range (still pretty high end): Silver, the menu is constantly changing, but when we were there they had some sort of Hawaiian sweet bread that I can’t stop thinking about.  The 2nd floor turns into a full on dance party complete with DJ on weekend nights.  Our friend Shawn is the GM, and he’s infinitely knowledgeable about wine and spirits and getting around the Utah drinking laws.

Monday night: Ladies Night at Butcher’s.  This is a no joke chocolate cake/cheap dranks situation if you are a chick.

Sushi: What? Sushi in Utah, but it’s landlocked?  Okay, whatevs, that’s what planes are for, to fly in fresh, delicious fish.  Oishi (address is Main Street but it’s tucked behind near the Marriott) is the spot.  We had several rowdy nights there (during the summer, they run 50% off specials for “locals”), it was a frequent spot for us to meet up with friends year-round.

Where can I eat for cheap? Tuesdays at O’Shucks, our fave dive bar.  As far as I know they still do $3 burger night on Tuesdays, it used to be $3 schooner night too, but Utah has ever-changing liquor laws, something about not being able to reduce the price of beer or something…

No Name Saloon – locals and non-locals alike flock here for the buffalo burgers, excellent service, and clean bathrooms.  I can’t recommend No Name enough.

Where should I absolutely go while in PC?  High West is home to Utah’s first distillery since the prohibition, they crank out good eats, but even better drinks.  I’m partial to the Peach Vodka mixed with soda water.  However, the whiskey is where they shine.  The building is awesome, and they are always willing to give a tour.  Also, it’s technically ski-in/ski-out if you are skiing PCMR.

A couple of don’t miss events if you have the chance during the winter:

World-Cup moguls and aerials at Deer Valley, even better if you can get on the VIP list where the wine flows like….well wine, and the food is SO delicious.

Pond Skimming/Spring Gruv at Canyons – no question, the event that announces spring in Utah.  Everyone dresses in costumes, the mood is fantastic, and there’s a free concert at the base afterwords.  The pond skimming part is 100 people dressed in costumes trying to make it across a 100 ft pond dug into the snow and filled with snow making water, yeah it’s usually about 40 degree water tops.  It’s hilarious and an overall giant party.

196261_609875383119_5690148_n

Always grab a local paper (The Park Record) because there are coupons inside for restaurants and weekly happenings for the area.

PC is certainly a unique town, and much different then any other ski town in its sheer accessibility to a major airport.  Our friends and the locals in general live in the area because of the lifestyle.  There is an overall commitment to health, happiness, and the environment.  Often times I would be driving from my office to the resort and see the trails full of cross country skiers during the winter and bikers during the summer, wondering if these people ever worked.  R and I certainly miss living there and miss our friends even more.

Enjoy!

Etsy Finds: Atlas Past Bags

I’ve been looking forward to the UPS Flea Market for a couple of weeks.  I was cruising the list of featured vendors on the Puget Sound Women’s League Facebook page and was thrilled when I clicked through to the Atlas Past Etsy page.  Based in Tacoma, she has an eye for matching textures and patterns. Can’t wait to see the bags in person tomorrow.  Here are some of my faves:

Craigslist Finds: Daybeds

My future sis-in-law has been searching for daybeds for their new house.  I think she found what she’s looking for but, here are a couple awesome ones still out there (in the Seattle area).

resthardwareListed for $100 – Restoration Hardware Ratan Style

Would be a great seating area divider in a long living room or perfect for a guest room/office.

crateandbarrelredCrate and Barrel $600
Pillows can be switched to the ends or the back so works as a couch or daybed. $600 is a little high, I would email initially with a low offer and see if they will come down if they don’t get rid of it in a week or so.

teakdaybedSolid Teak Daybed from Indonesia – $650

They probably won’t come down on the price on this one but it looks like there is a Christmas Tree in the pic and it’s February so they’ve probably been trying to sell it for awhile.  With some bright pillows this could look very exotic-chic.

antiquemahoganyMahogany Couch – $500

Okay – not really a daybed, but still pretty cool.

Looking for a unique piece for your house? I’m happy to cruise CL for some finds.
